Documentary “Kiss the Future” Premieres May 7 on Paramount+
“Kiss the Future” is a documentary film that premiered at the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival and will be released on Paramount+ in the US and Canada on May 7, 2024. The film focuses on the resilience of the people of Sarajevo during the Bosnian War and the role of music and art as a form of resistance and activism.
Produced by Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Sarah Anthony, and directed by Nenad Cicin-Sain, the documentary tells the story of an underground community of artists and musicians who continued to create and perform during the 1990s Siege of Sarajevo. With the city under constant bombing and sniper fire, music became a tool to maintain hope and a sense of normalcy.
The film also showcases the role of U2, one of the biggest bands in the world at the time, in raising awareness about the devastating conflict. An American aid worker, Bill Carter, reached out to U2’s lead singer, Bono, and convinced him to use his platform to bring attention to the situation in Sarajevo. U2 incorporated live satellite interviews with Sarajevans during their “Zoo TV Tour,” bringing the reality of the war into the homes of their concertgoers.
The documentary features interviews with Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, former US President Bill Clinton, Christiane Amanpour, and Vesna Andree Zaimović, among others. It showcases the power of art and music to provide solace and inspire change during times of crisis.
