Somerset: Wonder of the West Country Premieres on Channel 5, Thursday 29 February 2024
Channel 5 presents a brand new series called “Somerset: Wonder of the West Country,” a visually rich and immersive series that celebrates the picturesque beauty of Somerset’s landscape, attractions, and events. Narrated by Alan Titchmarsh, this show takes viewers on a journey to explore the county’s most iconic sites while uncovering hidden gems and introducing them to the people who call this West Country location home.
In the debut episode, we venture to Minehead, a charming seaside resort. Here, we meet the dedicated crew of the West Somerset Steam Railway as they tackle one of the country’s more challenging heritage railway lines. Their mission? To provide a luxurious dining experience aboard a moving carriage filled with eager passengers.
We also get to know David Baker, an ice-cream maker who adds some excitement to his popular seaside ice cream vans by testing two new flavours. The pressure is on for the owner and staff at historic Forde Abbey and its magnificent gardens as they prepare for their first-ever end-of-summer plant fair.
Additionally, we take a tour of Watchet’s East Quay and discover unique holiday lets that boast quirky charm. Finally, in Bishops Lydeard, we follow competitors and their mighty heavy horses as they compete in the prestigious National Ploughing competition.
