Angels (BBC-1 1975-1983, Fiona Fullerton, Julie Dawn Cole)

Medical drama series Angels told stories of a group of hardworking student nurses. The 25 minute episodes were shown twice weekly soap opera style.

The hospital was St Angelas in Battersea, London and the girls in the first intake included the Irish Maureen, Sita from Uganda, Jo and Patricia. Of course there was as much emphasis on their personal lives as their was their working ones. The series was considered to be quite gritty for its time. Much of the exterior shooting took place at St James Hospital in Balham, South London.

In September 1981 the action switched to a new hospital, Birmingham’s Heath Green, a much more modern facility.
