Clocking Off (BBC-1 2000-2003, Sarah Lancashire, John Simm)

Drama series Clocking Off took the form of interconnected dramas about the lives of a group of workers at Manchester factory Mackintosh Textiles, with each episode focusing on the home life of a different character.

Each episode of this extremely good and well acted series was more like a good old self contained play with the the other cast members appearing only on the periphery of the action although boss James Mackintosh played by Philip Glenister was always in the thick of the action.

The story of the week element did allow for lots of big names (such as David Morrissey, Christopher Eccleston and John Simm to take on guest roles. The BBC show The Street is very similar in style and idea!
