Fortitude (Sky 2015-2017, Sofie Grabol, Richard Dormer)

Fortitude is a place like nowhere else. Although surrounded by the savage beauty of the Arctic landscape, Fortitude is one of the safest towns on earth. There has never been a violent crime here. Until now.

In such a close-knit community a murder touches everyone and the unsettling horror of this crime threatens the future of the town itself.

Sheriff Dan Anderssen is the local Head of Police. Dan leads a world class search and rescue team but now finds himself investigating the brutal and shocking murder of a British research scientist. And he is forced to work alongside DCI Milton Caldwell, a British detective who’s just flown into Fortitude. As the search for the killer proceeds and the list of suspects grows, each cop finds compelling reasons to mistrust the other.

And as the endless summer nights give way once more to the Arctic darkness this apparently idyllic community struggles to make sense of the murderous terror that’s been let loose in its heart.

From Pivot’s press release, February 2016… Participant Media and Sky Atlantic announced today the new cast joining season two of the critically acclaimed drama series, Fortitude. Golden Globe(R) nominated Dennis Quaid (The Art of More, Far From Heaven), Parminder Nagra (The Blacklist, ER), Michelle Fairley (Game of Thrones), Robert Sheehan (Misfits), and Ken Stott (The Missing) have joined the cast of the chilling arctic thriller. Principal photography is already underway in London.

Season two of Fortitude will return to Participant Media’s television network, Pivot, and Sky Atlantic in Fall 2016. We are thrilled to be working with Sky once again on this bold Arctic thriller, and to welcome these extraordinary actors into the cozy, twisted world of Fortitude, said Belisa Balaban, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, Pivot. The second season promises another unexpected journey into this melting glacial landscape. Viewers of the second season will enjoy a fast paced new story that will see the Arctic town gripped by explosive events. In Fortitude nothing, and noone, is ever what they seem. A fresh murder rocks the community and plunges it into turmoil. And out in the stunning icy wilderness, nature is growing even more unpredictable, deadly and dangerous.

Season 2 Details

Now, it’s back for a new and pacy series that sees Dennis Quaid (The Big Easy), Ken Stott (The Hobbit Trilogy) Parminder Nagra (The Blacklist), Robert Sheehan (Misfits) and Michelle Fairley all join its stellar international cast. The parasite threat from season one has gone, but the residents are still fleeing the Arctic town in droves. Cut off from the mainland, those who remain in Fortitude battle on. However, in the wilderness, nature is growing restless and unpredictable. When the sky turns red, locals fear it is a bad omen for the town. Having disappeared after shooting Elena, Sheriff Dan Anderssen (Richard Dormer) is presumed dead. Vincent (Luke Treadaway) remains traumatised by his attack and Hildur (Sofie Grabol) struggles to hold on to her marriage, and her office. Eric (Bjorn Hlynur Haraldsson) fails to step into Dan’s shoes, leaving Ingrid and Petra to police a fragile community.

New faces are pulled into Fortitude’s vortex, including Ingrid’s stepfather Michael (Quaid). A fisherman, he is desperate to raise funds to buy treatment for his dying wife, and desperate times call for desperate measures. At the research centre, ambitious newcomer Dr. Surinder Khatri (Nagra) spots an opportunity that encourages her to push both medical and ethical boundaries. Then, a horrendous death rocks Fortitude. What looks like a careless accident involving a snowplough turns out to be a barbaric murder. As the police team investigate, a strange new figure appears hell-bent on destroying an evil spirit he believes has descended upon Fortitude and its inhabitants. There’s a demon amongst the herd and it has to be stopped, no matter what the consequences.
