Fringe (FOX 2008-2013, Anna Torv, Josh Noble)

Spooky and scary crime investigative drama Fringe travels into X-Files meets CSI territory when FBI agent Olivia Dunham teams up with Dr Walter Bishop (a former scientist forced out of his post in disgrace and who just happens to be in a mental institution (and has been for the last 17 years!), also on board is Walter’s son Peter and in the feature length pilot the trio and the rest of Olivia’s team try to discover the secrets behind a terrorist plane attack. As they dig deeper they discover links to a whole swathe of apparently connected happenings around the world.

J.J. Abrams follows up his last major TV hit Lost with more genre bending ideas, one of the major plus points with Fringe (besides the great playing of the three leads) is the way the storylines stay just this side of believable but its also not scared of going into the surreal or scary either.
