Loving Miss Hatto (BBC-1 2012, Alfred Molina, Francesca Annis)

Typically fab Victoria Wood script with a typically fab performance from Alfred Molina makes true story Loving Miss Hatto a real treat.

Loving Miss Hatto follows the 50 year love story of classical pianist Joyce Hatto and her record producer husband William Barrington-Coupe.

The intriguing thing about the pair of them is that although Joyce had quite a long career as a classical pianist from the mid fifties to the 1970’s she never made a name for herself.

However in the mid 1990’s “Barrie” decided to pull off a major con and started releasing albums under her name on his own classical music label – in reality the recordings were simply by other musicians.

Incredibly these, thanks in no small part to the burgeoning internet, the recordings began to make a real name for Joyce and it wasn’t until she died in the mid 2000’s that the fraud came to light.
