What can we expect from this episode
Kaeden, a 16-year-old with a serious childhood illness, is the focus of the first episode of a new series set at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, one of the busiest A&E departments in Europe. After Kaeden develops a fever at home, his parents rush him to Queen’s. While doctors investigate the possibility of sepsis, Kaeden’s mother Gemma shares the story of her son’s fight against acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
After a fall from his motorbike at a track race day, Steve, 61, is rushed to Resus. Pat, the wife of the former RAF fighter pilot, discusses her husband’s lifelong desire to fly jets and how, after his professional flying career ended, he found solace in an equally exhilarating hobby.
And Paul, 63, has come to A&E after he accidentally amputated part of his thumb while at work. Paul recalls his youth in the Midlands, where he participated in a strike during the unrest known as the “Winter of Discontent” in the late 1970s.
Cameras film around the clock in some of Britain’s busiest A&E departments, where stories of life, love and loss unfold every day
