The series that follows patients treated in the same 24-hour period at St George’s in south west London – one of the busiest A&E departments in Britain. This episode follows patients and staff at St George’s who learn the meaning of happiness as they pursue their dreams in life.
Nurse Emma is called to resus to help 71-year-old Thomas who’s had a suspected stroke. Emma has a narrow window of time to give Thomas a life-saving drug. While treating him, Emma tells us the story of how she went from working in a dry-cleaners as a teenager to pursuing a career as a stroke nurse.
Elsewhere, 97-year-old Leslie has been brought to A&E by his daughter and full-time carer Helen, after suffering with persistent nosebleeds. Helen talks about Leslie’s desire to provide for his family, despite his health declining after his wife passed away. At the same time, 88-year-old Mary is rushed to St George’s after falling at home and injuring her head.
Mary shares tales of her rebellious youth living in Bermuda, before she returned to the UK to pursue a career in journalism, despite the odds being stacked against her.
