After falling in his garden, Allan, who is 79 years old, is taken urgently to St. George’s Hospital in south London. Allan’s son Alex recalls the close relationship he saw between Allan and his parents and the priceless time Allan spent with them as they grew older as doctors work to stabilise Allan’s chest and back injuries. Des, a 50-year-old London Underground employee who collapsed at a station, is undergoing tests to look for signs of a heart attack.
Des thinks back on his childhood struggles and considers how they affected the kind of father he wanted to be. Peter, 63, also arrived at A&E with an infected splinter in his arm. Peter reflects on his time in the Royal Navy during his formative years, noting that he wasn’t able to be himself until he left at the age of 30 to pursue a career in live music.
