48 Hours The Snapchat Clue (CBS Saturday November 5, 2022)
Bart and Krista Halderson lived in a lovely home in Windsor, Wisconsin, and adored their two adult sons, so their sudden disappearance in July 2021 shocked their neighbourhood. Erin Moriarty, a correspondent for 48 HOURS, looks into how information discovered on social media could point police to their murderer.
When the couple vanished, there was mystery surrounding it, so investigators turned to family members for information, including sons Mitchell, who was 24 at the time and worked in technology, and Chandler, who was 23 at the time and a home-bound college student. The new job offer Chandler claimed to have received from Elon Musk’s SpaceX had him giddy. Chandler was the one who told authorities that his parents had left for the long Fourth of July weekend at the cabin but never came back. The social media app Snapchat is where the police would eventually discover a clue.
“No way would I have ever, ever guessed what was about to be revealed. Never,” Krista Halderson’s cousin Barbi Townsend said. “Nobody saw this coming.”
