60 Minutes Australia: A Mind of its Own/Dead End (Channel 9 Sunday 28 May 2023)
On 60 Minutes Australia tonight, an interview with a robot and more on Melissa Caddick.
A MIND OF ITS OWN
Reporters for 60 MINUTES are frequently given unusual tasks. This week, Tom Steinfort talks to a robot—a first for the show. As its creators like to remind us, Ameca is the world’s most advanced lifelike robot.
A feat of generative AI, it is inquisitive, talkative, and cocky. This super machine, as Steinfort finds out, actually has a will of its own.
It’s thrilling to be able to carry on a normal conversation with it, but the prospect is also quite terrifying. Because it’s possible that developing the means by which artificial intelligence robots like Ameca can surpass human intelligence is the single dumbest thing that humanity has ever done.

DEAD END
It’s been confirmed. Melissa Caddick, the con artist who went missing in Sydney, has been declared dead by the coroner. However, the circumstances of her death are unknown.
Those who had millions of dollars stolen from them by Caddick’s scam are still suffering. She presented herself as a financial whiz and guaranteed enormous returns to her backers. She used their funds to indulge in a lavish lifestyle of designer clothing, one-of-a-kind jewellery, and exotic vacations.
Tom Steinfort, who has been covering the Caddick case for over two years, will air new footage of Melissa, her husband Anthony Koletti, and her brother Adam Grimley from the night before her disappearance on 60 Minutes this Sunday.
Steinfort’s latest investigation has also uncovered information which could provide a long-awaited glimmer of hope for Caddick’s many victims.
