Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star: Episode 3 airs Wednesday 17 May 2023 on BBC Three
The eight remaining MUAs are about to be put through their paces. The Makeup artists (MUAs) in this episode are on the set of the BBC show Ghosts, where they are tasked with applying special effects (FX) makeup to the actors to make them look like they’ve died from the plague.
The MUAs have never worked in teams before, so this round will be the first to put their communication and collaboration skills to the test. Time is running out as they try to wow this week’s guest judge, Natalie Pateman, the hair and make-up designer for the Ghosts. The MUAs, who have their pick of state-of-the-art FX prosthetics and techniques, have the difficult task of capturing the essence of the plague victims who have spent years holed up in the basement. The MUAs go above and beyond to create realistic and jaw-dropping make-up that will transport the audience into the world of the paranormal, from gory wounds to dirtying down. The other MUAs are eager to unseat the one who has already won two industry assignments.
The Glow Up studios reopen the following day for the MUAs. After yesterday’s encounters with the afterlife, they are now delving into their innate personalities by creating a special effects character that embodies their zodiac sign. They’re all trying their best to win over special FX MUA Vanessa Davis as the guest judge.
The MUAs, their creative juices flowing, draw on their own traits to create alien human hybrid crab creatures with make-up that is both innovative and visually stunning. One such creature has upside-down prosthetic ears for claws. One MUA, infamous for being late everywhere she goes, has a bold new look thanks to a dozen DIY prosthetics.
One MUA is eliminated during judging, and two move on to the Face-Off elimination round, where they must create a symmetrical crystal embellishment design in a limited amount of time.
