Some exciting new nests have been released now that Springwatch is in full swing and the Dorset heathland has provided a truly terrific cast of characters.

Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan discuss the events of the previous night from the perspectives of the major players, while Iolo Williams gets some exercise by venturing further afield in search of the heathland’s radiant invertebrates.

Gillian Burke is still exploring Snowdonia in search of Britain’s only poisonous snake, the adder.

Another interesting character is the 81-year-old “swift man,” who, for the past ten years, has dedicated himself to constructing nesting boxes for swifts. He has racked up 64,000 so far and shows no signs of slowing down!
