What can we expect from this episode
The trip to the south of France is a buying trip for antique dealers Ian Humphries, Harry Khwaja, and Jo Roberts. They are based out of a rustic farmhouse in Provence, which is conveniently close to the region’s best brocantes.
The three friends are taking a day trip to L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, a town famous for its picturesque market surrounded by canals and waterwheels, which owes its existence to the wool trade. There, they compete to see who can find the most valuable hidden treasures and bring home the most cash by selling them online. The first obstacle the group must overcome is coming up with an idea that will be popular with their existing clientele and online audience in a short amount of time.
Jo spends a lot of time on social media, where she shares her work and her life, and she is also a regular at antique fairs across the country. The textile enthusiast is convinced that her followers will go crazy for a blanket made with a Marseille weave, and she promptly falls in love with the blanket. But because she has to pay more for it, she needs to do more investigation at the farm in order to maximise her earnings.
Harry is thrilled to be able to offer his American customers something a little out of the ordinary, despite the fact that he manages his online empire out of a lock-up in east London. Which is one way of putting it when he finds a huge wooden shoe in one of the upscale shops. Is it realistic to expect him to sell a highly specialised item for such a low price in one day?
Ian, better known as “Flip it Freddy” in the business world, is searching for a more commercial item when he comes across a traditional pestle and mortar. He has to bargain to get a good price, but he believes there is a healthy online market for practical and attractive kitchen accessories like these. Will his prediction come true?
The dealers face more than just a communication barrier and a limited selling window. A new opportunity to throw a wrench into the works and test everyone’s ability to shop according to a specific brief is available every day. Jo, ever the extrovert, has taken the reins today and given them a party-related quest.
After purchasing six items, they return to the farm to assess the competition. The 17th-century farmhouse, nestled amongst vineyards and olive groves, serves as the perfect backdrop for the photographs and videos our dealers take in an effort to highlight the unique qualities of their Provençal wares when they list them for sale online.
Which of our three competitors at The Vintage French Farmhouse will come out on top today, with only a day to secure a sale and the battle on to make the most profit?
Three antique dealers head to a French farmhouse on a buying trip to the region’s best antiques markets and compete to sell their French finds online in a day.
