Today Monday 16 January 2023, there is a new episode of We Are England.

The Real Phoenix Nights: What Happened Next The Railway Club in Clacton, Essex, is a well-established hangout for the town’s working men. As the nerve centre of a healthy community, it provides a vital link to the outside world for many locals and, for many, serves as a surrogate family.

John, as chairman of The Railway, has witnessed the club welcome generations of Clacton residents and host activities ranging from bingo games to karaoke contests. Unfortunately, these are difficult times for our coastal community. The population is getting older, and the area has been struggling economically for a long time.

We observe The Railway as it attempts to adapt to the changing times by embracing new technologies. Kelly and Emma, John’s two kids, have decided to pitch in with their dad at the club. Kelly, who has a background in banking, is decisive and eager to advance the company, while Emma’s generosity and empathy make her a favourite among the club’s senior members, whom she tends to outside of work hours.

Because of mounting costs and a declining membership, they’ve decided to join The Railway in the hopes of increasing the club’s overall popularity and saving it from closure.

In addition, they are eager to safeguard a landmark that holds immense sentimental value for their family. An awkward balance between the old and the new is achieved in this tale of tradition, modernity, and a family.

A year has passed since the first episode of We Are England aired on BBC1,  now the show is checking in on the team to see how they’re doing. Have Kelly and Emma maintained John’s traditional methods while drawing in new members?
