What’s On Dr. Phil Today Friday July 1, on CBS
Dr. Phil Today Friday July 1, on CBS; Gabby Petito, Natalee Holloway, and Lacy Peterson are names you’ve probably heard of. But have you ever heard of Jermain Charlo, Ashley Loring, or Henny Scott? These are just a few of the names of missing Indigenous women. Some are never found, while others are found dead days later. But the truth of what happened to them is frequently a mystery.
Families claim that law enforcement is silent, leaving them inconsolable and without closure. In Native American communities, where there is an epidemic of missing women, their stories are not unusual. These girls’ families claim that no one is concerned about them, which explains why you never hear about them. Henny Scott, the 14-year-old daughter of Nate and Paula, vanished almost three years ago while out with friends before being discovered dead two weeks later.
When she vanished four years ago, Ashley Loring was just 20 years old. On the Blackfeet Indian reservation in Montana, she was last seen in the town of Browning. Loxie, her mother, claims that there are still no answers. Rep. Greg Stanton of Arizona, former criminal prosecutor Loni Coombs, and tribal filmmaker Rain discuss this widespread epidemic with Dr. Phil. This is a call to action because Indigenous women say they have a target on their back.
