When the original episode of Man About the House aired 50 years ago in 1973, the idea of a man living in a household with two young women was revolutionary. Characters like Richard O’Sullivan’s Robin Tripp became household names thanks to the show’s popularity. George and Mildred, the landlord and tenant in the downstairs flat, were so popular that they got their own show. Mildred, played brilliantly by the late Yootha Joyce, had a henpecked husband played by Brian Murphy.

Paula Wilcox, Sally Thomsett, and Brian Murphy, along with Christopher Biggins and Melvyn Hayes, reflect on the show’s success after half a century in this documentary.

Actor Norman Eshley, radio hosts Robert Elms and Bobby Friction, and musicians Nina Myskow, John Aizlewood, and Michael Hogan are all interviewed.
