Six Bridges to Cross (Universal 1955, Sal Mineo, George Nader)
Veteran director Joseph Pevney helms this true to life chronicle of the notorious Boston Brinks heist with a $2.5 million payoff. The story begins with the early life of future criminal Jerry Florea (Sal Mineo). A petty teen thief, Florea is adopted by a kindly cop (George Nader) and his wife (Julie Adams) who hope to steer him from a life of crime.
For a time this seems to work, and the now adult Florea (Tony Curtis) even gets a job at Brinks. But old habits die hard, and Florea begins the six year planning of the robbery. Only after the success of his crime does his conscience get the better of him, forcing him to attempt a risky restitution.
Six Bridges to Cross marked the big screen debut of future teen idol Sal Mineo (Rebel Without a Cause, Giant).
