ABC Renews ‘The Rookie’ for Season 7

The Rookie

ABC has given the green light to The Rookie for a seventh season, continuing the popular police procedural’s successful run. The renewal comes as no surprise, given the show’s strong performance and dedicated fan base.

Starring Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, the oldest rookie at the Los Angeles Police Department, The Rookie has become a staple of ABC’s weekly lineup. The series cleverly blends character-driven storytelling with a procedural format, and Fillion’s charismatic performance is a highlight.

The show’s sixth season, which premiered on February 20, 2024, maintained solid ratings. With an average of 3.39 million viewers in the live+same-day ratings, The Rookie remains a solid performer for the network. The series is currently ABC’s third veteran series to be renewed for the 2023-24 season, joining the ranks of Abbott Elementary and Grey’s Anatomy.

The Rookie has demonstrated its resilience and adaptability, especially with its move to Tuesday nights. The shift has proven beneficial, with a 31% increase in its same-day audience compared to its previous Sunday timeslot. The show’s multi-platform ratings have also risen over last season.

While spin-off The Rookie: Feds didn’t make it to season 2, The Rookie’s renewal ensures that the original series will continue to captivate audiences. The seventh season is expected to feature new cases and interpersonal drama, building upon the show’s engaging formula.
