Aldi’s Next Big Thing, 7 May 2024, Channel 4, “Healthy and Wholesome Innovations”
In the sixth episode of the second season of Aldi’s Next Big Thing, we explore the world of healthy and wholesome food innovations. An eclectic group of small-time food producers present their unique concepts to Aldi’s Managing Director of Buying, Julie Ashfield, accompanied by Anita Rani and Chris Bavin. With only two spots available, the competition is fierce, and the decision comes down to the wire.
Among the contenders is a protein ball with a divisive name—Dung. This unusual product aims to provide a nutritious and perhaps conversation-starting snack. On a similar healthy note, a pitch for a spin on ginger beer promises a fiery kick. Moving from the city to the Welsh mountains, a mushroom enthusiast showcases their mountain-grown produce. Lastly, a young entrepreneur presents a low-sugar granola butter, hoping to revolutionise breakfast tables nationwide.
With a life-changing contract on the line to supply over 1000 Aldi stores, the pressure is on for these small-scale producers. Only two will be chosen to develop their products further and secure that coveted shelf space. Who will convince Aldi’s buyers and take their business to new heights? Tune in to Channel 4 on Tuesday, 7 May 2024, at 8:00 p.m. to find out.
