Channel 5 Announce New Thriller “COMA” Starring Jason Watkins
Channel 5 has given the green light to a new four-part drama called Coma. The show is a tense and compelling thriller that follows the consequences of a fateful decision and the chaos that ensues. It stars Jason Watkins and is produced by Roughcut Television and CBS Studios, with distribution handled by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
The story revolves around Simon, played by Jason Watkins, a devoted family man who reaches his breaking point when his neighborhood is terrorized by a group of teenagers led by Jordan Franklin, played by Joe Barber. Simon and his wife, Beth, portrayed by Claire Skinner, want to move their daughter to a safer area. However, when Simon confronts Jordan, a split-second decision changes everything.
The cast also includes David Bradley as Simon’s grumpy neighbor Harry, Jonas Armstrong as Jordan’s dangerous father Paul, Kayla Meikle as determined DS Kelly, and David Mumeni as Simon’s untrustworthy boss Jimmy.
Coma has been commissioned by Paul Testar, the Commissioning Editor for Drama at Channel 5 and Paramount+. It is written and created by Ben Edwards, with executive producers from Roughcut Television including Creative Director Alex Smith, Head of Drama Marianna Abbotts, and Chief Executive Ash Atalla. The director is Michael Samuels.
Roughcut Television, known for their comedy productions, is making their debut in the drama space with Coma. The company, founded by Ash Atalla, has produced shows like The Office and People Just Do Nothing.
Coma explores the consequences of a single moment’s lapse in judgment and the unexpected repercussions that can turn into a life-altering nightmare. Filming began in October, and the show is set to air on Channel 5 in 2024.
