In the season premiere of Farmhouse Fixer, airing on HGTV on Tuesday April 23, Jonathan Knight and Kristina Crestin revisit the John Proctor House, a location with a dark history tied to the Salem Witch Trials of the late 17th century. The house, also known as the Jonathan Corwin House, was the site of interrogations and the signing of arrest warrants by Judge Jonathan Corwin.

Knight and Crestin’s task is to restore the house following a pipe break that caused water damage and mould. They embrace the challenge of preserving the home’s historical significance while modernising it for contemporary living.

Crestin, an interior designer based in Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Knight, a former member of New Kids on the Block, have developed a close working relationship. They met when Crestin worked at a design firm hired by Knight, and they have collaborated on several projects since, including a season of This Old House.

In this episode, they navigate the complexities of renovating a historic home, ensuring their design choices honour the past while creating a functional and aesthetically pleasing space. From millwork to beadboard and beams on the ceiling, the duo pays attention to every detail to preserve the farmhouse’s character.

The John Proctor House, located in Salem, Massachusetts, is one of the few remaining structures directly linked to the infamous Salem Witch Trials, during which innocent lives were lost to mass hysteria and archaic beliefs.
