Fresh Cops: Series 2 Premiere (BBC THREE Thursday 25 January 2024)
In the series 2 premiere of “Fresh Cops,” airing on BBC THREE on Thursday 25 January 2024 at 21:00, viewers are given an intimate look into the world of Leicestershire’s youngest police officers. This gripping series offers a unique perspective on frontline policing, showcasing the challenges faced by these dedicated individuals and highlighting how their friendships and camaraderie help them navigate even the toughest shifts.
The episode begins with a grade one call-out for PC Jake Bull, a 26-year-old officer who has recently returned to his beloved response team after spending time seconded to the child exploitation unit. Despite his year-long detour, Jake is eager to be back doing what he loves most: responding to incidents as they occur.
Joining this season is fresh-faced PC Philippa, only in her third week on the job at just 23 years old. Feeling overwhelmed but determined to prove herself, she adopts the mantra “fake it ’til you make it.” She finds support and mentorship from Jenny, another member of the team aged 26. Together, they respond to an electronic tag breach involving a suspect known for owning an aggressive dog. With nerves running high during Philippa’s first-ever arrest in such challenging circumstances, will she remember all aspects of protocol correctly?
Another central figure in this episode is Dom, a rising star within Leicestershire police service now serving as sergeant at age 27—though still adjusting to his new role. Alongside response partner Dan, Dom embarks on a search for a missing person who has taken an overdose within a park. The urgency palpable under harsh conditions—cold temperatures coupled with darkness—and extensive land coverage underscores both their determination and sense of responsibility.
Dom attributes much of his passion for emergency services work—thriving amidst constant adrenaline rushes—to his father’s career as firefighter while acknowledging that empathy skills were honed by observing his mother working as a special educational needs teacher. In a candid conversation with Dan, Dom admits that even in his position as sergeant, nights like these can still prove challenging.
Philippa’s first experience of the night-time economy shift alongside Jenny is an eventful one. The convergence of payday weekend, freshers’ week, and a full moon paints a picture of absolute chaos. While Philippa hails from private school education and has never engaged in physical altercations or contact sports before joining the force, she finds herself thrust into the deep end when she must help secure an aggressive male individual under Jenny’s guidance.
The premiere episode sets the stage for “Fresh Cops,” offering audiences an authentic glimpse into the realities faced by young police officers on Leicestershire’s frontlines. Viewers will be captivated by both familiar faces and new recruits as they navigate high-pressure situations while relying on each other for support.
Tune in to BBC THREE at 21:00 on Thursday 25 January 2024 to witness the action unfold firsthand.
