How I Got Here, April 14 2024, BYUtv, “Kenya: Home Is a Feeling”
How I Got Here returns to BYUtv with an emotional and insightful episode, “Kenya: Home Is a Feeling,” airing on Sunday, April 14. This instalment follows Jamila, a Kenyan-Canadian woman who feels disconnected from her cultural roots. In a bid to rediscover her heritage, she travels to Kenya for the first time with her father, Abdul, after years of separation.
It’s a journey of self-discovery and cultural exploration for Jamila as she reconnects with her father and immerses herself in the rich traditions and history of Kenya. The dynamic between Jamila and her father, Abdul, will be a central focus, as they navigate their renewed relationship and strengthen their bond.
Kenya’s vibrant culture and natural beauty serves as a stunning backdrop to their journey of self-discovery. The show’s premise of young adults accompanying their immigrant parents back to their country of origin provides a unique perspective on family dynamics and the exploration of one’s roots.
Previous episodes of How I Got Here have featured similar heartfelt journeys, including “Trinidad: That’s the Love,” where Andy and her daughter, Alexandria, travelled to Trinidad to reconcile Andy’s complicated childhood, and “Kosovo: The Cry of Man is Singing,” where Naser and his son, Ander, retraced Naser’s painful past during the Kosovo War.
How I Got Here Kenya: Home Is a Feeling airs on BYUtv at 8:00 pm on Sunday, April 14, 2024.
