Jeopardy! Recap, Winner and Today’s Final Answer Friday April 12, 2024
Jeopardy! fans witnessed another exciting episode on Friday April 14, as three new contestants took center stage, bringing their knowledge and quick reflexes to the game. Brian Phillips, an IT technician from Spring Valley, New York, Sarah Avery, an assistant reporter of judicial decisions from Ellington, Connecticut, and returning champ Alison Betts, a writer and creative executive from San Jose, California, all vied for the top spot.
The categories for the initial round included Stock Photos, Kinda, Today’s Hits, New York Governors, Fads, Kiddy Lit, and That’s So Cringe. Alison Betts, a one-day champion with previous winnings of $28,600, started strong by adding $1,000 to her score on the very first clue. The first Daily Double, worth $800, appeared in the Kiddy Lit category, with the beloved book “The Velveteen Rabbit” being the correct response. At the first break, Alison maintained a slight lead with $2,200, followed by Sarah with $4,400, while Brian fell behind with a negative score of $600.
As the game progressed into Double Jeopardy!, the categories shifted to American Birds, Fake Movies in Movies, The Black Arts Movement, Where’d You “Go”?, and Drop In… The contestants faced two more Daily Doubles in this round. Alison demonstrated her strategic skills by doubling her wager to $14,000 on the second Daily Double, further extending her lead. She continued her winning streak by adding $2,000 to her score on the third Daily Double, entering the final round with a comfortable lead of $25,600.
The Final Jeopardy! category, Authors’ Afterlives, presented a challenging clue about an author whose work was reworked and published posthumously by their son. Alison and Brian provided the correct response, identifying the author as Jules Verne. With her additional wager of $7,500, Alison cemented her victory, finishing with a two-day total of $61,700.
In a thrilling conclusion, Alison Betts emerged as the winner with a final score of $33,100. Sarah Avery and Brian Phillips finished in second and third place, with totals of $8,400 and $6,600, respectively.
