Jeopardy! Recap, Winner & Final Answer Wednesday January 24, 2024
In the Wednesday January 24 episode of the iconic game show Jeopardy!, three contestants battled it out for a chance to advance in the Champions Wildcard round. The players competing were Kelly Barry, a marketing communications manager from Seattle, Washington; Lloyd Sy, a professor of American literature originally from Rockford, Illinois; and Dillon Hupp, an associate director of development hailing from Syracuse, New York.
The episode kicked off with six categories: Love Story, Our Song, Bad Blood, Shake It Off (which had the Daily Double), We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, and The Errors Tour. Lloyd took an early risk by wagering $1,200 on the Daily Double under Shake It Off but unfortunately lost that amount. By the first break in gameplay scores stood as follows: Dillon at $1,400 dollars leading slightly ahead of Kelly’s $1,800 score while Lloyd was in front with $3,200.
In another exciting turn of events during Double Jeopardy!, both Lloyd and Dillon seized opportunities presented by Daily Doubles. When faced with clues about words derived from Latin roots—the ultimate or most perfect form of—Lloyd correctly answered with “What is quintessential?” This earned him an additional 1,000 points. Meanwhile, Dillon capitalized on a question about national anthems by identifying Brunei as the small island nation whose anthem includes lyrics mentioning peaceably being both kingdom and sultan—a worthy answer that added 5,000 points to his total score.
As Final Jeopardy approached—one last chance for contestants to either take control or fall further behind—the category was revealed: 1980s Movie Characters. The clue asked about a film from 1983, with Oliver Stone as the screenwriter and the main character named in honor of the Super Bowl-winning quarterback from 1982. Unfortunately, none of the contestants were able to correctly respond with “What is Scarface?”
Despite their incorrect answers, Lloyd emerged victorious due to his strategic betting in Final Jeopardy and consistent performance throughout the episode. He secured a place in further competition by advancing with a total score of $24,399.
Final scores for this particular episode ended with Dillon at $0, Lloyd at an impressive $24,399, and Kelly at $1,800.
