Joel Dommett Confirmed as Host of BBC’s Survivor UK
British comedian and presenter Joel Dommett has been announced as the new host of the UK version of the world-renowned reality competition series, Survivor. The show is set to air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, and is being produced by Remarkable Entertainment, a Banijay UK company.
The premise of the show is to put strangers from all walks of life in a remote spot and see if they can survive there long enough to win a £100,000 cash prize. Survival in this game requires players to band together into tribes, hunt for supplies, construct their own dwellings, and test their mettle in challenges for rewards and immunity.
Joel expressed his excitement for the role, saying “I CAN’T BELIEVE IT! A huge thank you to the BBC for trusting me with this. It’s such a hugely popular format all over the world and I’m super excited to help bring it to our sweet little country. Let the tribal councils BEGIN!”
Natalka Znak, CEO of Remarkable Entertainment, Initial and Znak TV, expressed her enthusiasm for the show, stating that “Not only is Survivor one of the biggest shows on TV, we are thrilled to have one of the biggest talents on TV host it. Joel’s infectious wit and energy are second to none – I can’t wait to watch as he leads our Survivor contestants through their epic battle!”
Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment for the BBC, shared her excitement for Joel’s involvement, saying “Having Joel on board is brilliant! With his natural comedic charm we are thrilled that he is going to be on hand guiding, encouraging and challenging our contestants as they all try to be the sole survivor!”
Applications to take part in the show are now open and close on 6 March, with more information available at survivoruk.com. The show is open to participants aged 18 and over.
Survivor (16 x 60’) is a Remarkable Entertainment (a Banijay UK company) production for BBC One and BBC iPlayer and was commissioned by Kate Phillips in her capacity as Director of Entertainment Commissioning. Natalka Znak, CEO of Remarkable Entertainment, is Executive Producer alongside Chief Creative Officer, Claire O’Donohoe, Creative Director Paul Osborne and Executive Producers Georgina Hinds and Stephen Lovelock. The Commissioning Editors for the BBC are Jo Wallace and Saul Fearnley.
