NHL Special: Game 4: Hurricanes at Islanders, April 27, 2024, TBS/truTV
The NHL Special on TBS and truTV presents Game 4 of the First Round series between the Carolina Hurricanes and the New York Islanders on Saturday April 27. The Hurricanes hold a commanding 3-0 series lead and will look to complete the sweep on the road, while the Islanders aim to stave off elimination and force a Game 5.
In Game 3, the Islanders fell 3-2 in a tightly contested battle, with the Hurricanes’ Sebastian Aho scoring the game-winning goal in the second period. The Islanders’ Anders Lee acknowledged the importance of the upcoming game, stating, “It comes down to very small things throughout each game, and we’ve come up short three times now.”
The Islanders face an uphill battle, as only four out of 206 teams have rallied from a 3-0 series deficit. However, they remain determined, with forward Bo Horvat expressing confidence in their ability to overcome the odds. Head Coach Patrick Roy emphasized the need to generate more shots on goal, noting that they had the edge in shots on net in two of the first three games.
Goaltending will be a key factor, with the Islanders’ Ilya Sorokin allowing five goals in Game 4 and the Hurricanes’ Frederik Andersen stepping up with solid performances in Games 2 and 3. The Islanders’ Robin Lehner, who has never defeated the Hurricanes in seven career starts, could be replaced by Thomas Greiss, who won three of four games against Carolina during the regular season.
The Hurricanes, led by forward Jordan Martinook, aim to maintain their intensity and finish the series. They have never swept an opponent in a best-of-seven series, and forward Martinook stressed the importance of not letting up despite their lead. The Hurricanes’ fourth line of Martinook, Greg McKegg, and Patrick Brown has been effective in shutting down the Islanders’ physical identity line of Matt Martin, Casey Cizikas, and Cal Clutterbuck.
With the series on the line, both teams will leave everything on the ice. The Islanders will fight to extend their season, while the Hurricanes aim to secure a spot in the Eastern Conference Final.
The NHL Special: Game 4 airs on TBS and truTV at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
