In this episode of Uncensored, airing on Sunday April 7 on TV One, viewers will get an unfiltered look into the life of actor, singer, and author Christian Keyes, as he shares his journey from a troubled childhood in foster care to his successful career in Hollywood.
Born on 24 July 1975 in Detroit, Michigan, Keyes began his career in entertainment by appearing in stage plays. He soon transitioned to television and film, landing roles in popular shows like Brothers & Sisters, Moonlight, Family Time, and Beauty and the Beast. Keyes also ventured into music and also released two urban romance novels in the mid-2010s, which were later adapted into the BET+ drama series All the Queen’s Men, which he also wrote and produced.
Keyes’ early life took a tragic turn when he entered the foster care system as a child, suffering abuse at the hands of his first foster mother, Mrs. Keyes. He allegedly endured physical abuse, being hit with various objects, and was even forced to walk down the street naked in the rain at the age of nine. Keyes became a “professional runaway”, escaping his traumatic home life by stealing food and sleeping in abandoned buildings.
Despite these challenges, Keyes persevered and eventually found a loving home with his second adoptive family, who taught him discipline and responsibility. Keyes studied social work at Ferris State University but ultimately pursued a career in entertainment, working with media mogul Tyler Perry on projects like Madea Goes to Jail and What’s Done In the Dark.
In recent years, Keyes has bravely spoken out against sexual harassment in Hollywood, accusing an unnamed powerful man in the industry of making unwanted advances. Keyes has also addressed the issue of child abuse, reflecting on his own experiences and advocating for change.
