Benedict Cumberbatch

English actor Benedict Cumberbatch is one of the most popular stars in the world thanks in no small part to his role as Sherlock Holmes in the BBC’s Sherlock, a modern day version Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic character. He also plays a vital part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Strange.

Other key credits include Patrick Melrose, Parade’s End, The Hollow Crown and The Imitation Game. As well as the MCU he was in Star Trek Into Darkness and voiced the dragon Smaug in The Hobbit trilogy.

His full name is Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch and he is the son of actors Wanda Ventham and Timothy Carlton. Cumberbatch was awarded a CBS in the 2015 birthday honours list.
