The Chisholms began life as a mini-series in 1979 before becoming a series the following year. The series, like the min-series, is set in the 1840’s, and having lost their farm in Virginia after a legal dispute, the Chisholm’s move onward towards the West on a wagon train led by an crusty pioneer who watches over them after their father passes away.
