The Ruby In The Smoke (BBC Drama, Billie Piper)

In The Ruby In The Smoke, based on the novel by Philip Pullman, we are in Victorian England where Sally Lockhart (Billie Piper) attempts to discover why her father died. She soons finds herself enmeshed in a mystery involving the hunt for a valuable jewel which is also being sought by the evil Mrs Holland (Julie Walters).

There was a second Sally Lockhart mystery the following year called The Shadow in the North. This also starred Billie Piper as Sally.
