In drama series The Secret Daughter pub singer Billie Carter finds herself in trouble, in a bid to get away from it she poses as the secret daughter of wealthy city hotelier Jack Norton. It’s a move that changes both their lives forever.

Brad Lyons, 7’s director of Network Production said of having singer Mauboy on board “Jessica Mauboy is an amazing talent and this is a terrific yarn full of warmth, humour and music.”

Speaking to the Screen Australia blog producer Karl Zwicky says the idea came from Screentime CEO Rory Callaghan, who “saw in Jess an absolute major star and an opportunity to make a really unique vehicle” for her. Well, when the opportunity came to frame a drama around Jess Mauboy, you’d have to be mad not to go for it, she’s actually got a fantastic onscreen personality that people possibly haven’t seen as much of until they see this show.”

Australian Gangster (Channel 7 2018)

Published

By

Channel 7

Australian Gangster is a crime drama that will have a distinctly modern vibe. No real plot details have been released as yet but it’s being talked of a grand tale of crime in Western Sydney where glitz and glamour vie with drugs and laundered money. The behind the scenes crew have impressive pedigrees – it’s been written by Gregor Jordan (of Two Hands fame) and Romper Stomper author Malcolm Knox.

Producer John Edwards said “Just as Two Hands was an oblique take on a familiar form a generation ago, Australian Gangster will be a genre-bending crime drama series – confronting, affronting, touching and often laugh-out-loud crazy.”

Filming will begin early next year in and around Sydney.
