Being Mum With MND airs Tues 3 May on BBC Scotland
This new documentary chronicles the incredible experience of Lucy Lintott, 27, a young mother who is believed to be one of the few – if not the only – women living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) who has given birth twice.
Lucy was only 19 years old when she received a diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease in 2013. She was believed to be the youngest person ever diagnosed with the degenerative ailment in Scotland, with medical specialists having little precedent for predicting how it would evolve in a person so young. However, she defied all predictions, inspiring many people worldwide through her online updates.
This new joyful documentary, produced by Lion Television Scotland, tells Lucy’s story from the early days of her diagnosis, and updates it dramatically as she takes on a whole new challenge – motherhood – despite what others might have viewed as the insurmountable physical difficulties of her condition.
The film chronicles Lucy’s courageous path from regaining her independence post-diagnosis to living her dreams against all the odds. It follows her as she plans marriage to the man she loves and goes on an incredible journey, having and raising her two young children.
Lucy says: “This is my unique and amazing family; the family I had always wished for – but heartbreakingly I was told I would never be able to have.”
The documentary is full of heartwarming scenes of their family life, while Lucy and her fiancé Tommy talk about their fears as they embarked upon parenthood. Lucy’s family and friends also share their insights into this remarkable woman.
Her love for her family and determination to live a normal, happy life shines through in this moving documentary about an inspirational young woman living with MND.
