Reporter Nick Dole investigates the latest independence movement in Wales and talks with its leaders on this week’s episode of Foreign Correspondent.
He visits the town of Wrexham, where the residents are riding high on a wave of pride as their football team achieves international acclaim due to the hit Netflix series Welcome to Wrexham. Wrexham is now more well-known thanks to the purchase of the team by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. However, there is also a growing belief that Wales can accomplish much more as an independent country, free from the rule of Westminster, and fanatical support for the team.
One issue is growing increasingly loud as there is a renewed effort to protect the Welsh language: A fyddai cymru yn well ei byd ar ei phen ei hun? (Would Wales be better off on its own?)
