The fourteen remaining amateur cooks have made it through the first round of Knockout Week after five weeks of intense competition in the heats. They are all competing for the same prize: the MasterChef trophy. At the end of this week, only the top performers will advance to the semifinals. Over the next two evenings, the tension will rise as the remaining 14 competitors are divided into two teams.

Seven contestants from the first round are back to compete for an opportunity to work in a real restaurant kitchen. They have to whip up a dish worthy of appearing in their own eatery, pop-up, or cookbook. In Gregg’s absence, guest judge Anna Haugh joins John in the MasterChef kitchen to make the cut between the five remaining competitors and the two eliminated from further consideration.

The final five competitors then travel to London’s Kings Cross to work at Decimo under Chef Peter Sanchez-Iglesias, who has two Michelin-starred restaurants serving a fusion of Spanish and Mexican cuisine in his hometown of Bristol.

During the restaurant’s busiest lunch hour, the five inexperienced servers will be in charge of everything from taking orders to bringing out the food. Who will crack under the strain of working in a challenging and unfamiliar kitchen?

These amateurs will have to stand out in order to advance in a competition where only the food matters and earn a shot at the title of MasterChef Champion 2023.

Season 19 Episode 16

John Torode and Gregg Wallace are looking for the country’s next star chef. Those who make it through to the quarter-final must prove their knowledge and passion for food. The heats have produced four exceptional cooks, but only one of them will make it through today to become a semi-finalist. Initially named Masterchef Goes Large, the series changed it’s name to Masterchef in 2008.
