After 70 years on the throne, the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has been announced.

It’s a sad time for everyone at the Tower, especially the Yeoman Warders who have met the Queen in their capacity as her personal bodyguard.

The Tower enters an official period of mourning for two weeks as a Royal Palace with ties to the Royal Household.

The year 2022 was a watershed one for the Beefeaters and the Tower of London. For the first time in a millennium, the Tower celebrated its Platinum Jubilee with the largest installation since the Poppies honouring World War I. The Superbloom is a massive project that involves turning the Tower moat into a massive floral display in the Queen’s honour.

Along with commemorating one thousand years of remarkable British history at home, the residents of the Tower throw a party to welcome their new Constable, the Beefeaters welcome their third female warder, and Ravenmaster Chris Skaife keeps a close eye on his mischievous birds to make sure they don’t steal the tourists’ lunch.

In the fall, the Yeoman Warders, the royal guard, gather to remember one of the darkest chapters in the Tower’s history—the death of Queen Elizabeth II—before making the official proclamation of King Charles.
