What can we expect from this episode
The Reverend Canon Kate Bottley goes to Preston in preparation for Alcohol Awareness Week in order to study the origins of the Victorian era temperance movement. Together, we are continuing the work of the original children’s temperance society by teaching young people about the dangers of alcohol and other drugs.
YolanDa Brown meets a pastor in Burnley who, like her, found a deeper connection to her faith during her time sober. In addition, Kate gets to hang out with the locals at the oldest still-operating temperance bar in the country while sampling some alcohol-free cocktails.
Featuring praise songs and concerts from all over the country, such as:
What a Friend We Have in Jesus – Albert Hall, Nottingham
Abide with Me – Glasgow Cathedral
Bridge over Troubled Water – Rock Choir
In Christ Alone – St Cuthbert’s Church, Carlisle
I Want Jesus to Walk with Me – Vocal Creation
Lord Of All Hopefulness – Hereford Cathedral
Songs of Praise is a BBC Television religious programme that presents Christian hymns which first aired in October 1961. The first edition was broadcast from the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cardiff, and the series is one of the longest-running of its kind on television anywhere in the world.
