This week, judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young have the sewers make pieces inspired by a travel wardrobe, but it’s not exactly a vacation.

Sara Pascoe’s announcement that a rucksack must be made for the Pattern Challenge is a first for the Sewing Bee. This devilishly difficult obstacle features a strap with a complicated construction and metal hardware for adjusting. To complete their sturdy and fashionable bag for their hike backtrack, they need to add a lining.

In the Transformation, the protagonists pack their bags and head to the beach, where the sewer artists must transform their windbreakers into waterproof rain gear.

They try to stay out of the shade by making custom swimwear for the Sewing Bee. Some people wear swimwear made for use in open water, while others reserve it for use in the pool. Who will make a name for themselves, and who will be the second sewer to drop out of the race?
