48 Hours: The Assassination of Jeff German (CBS Saturday February 17, 2024)
In a brand new episode of CBS’s investigative series 48 Hours, correspondent Peter Van Sant delves into the intriguing case of Jeff German, a Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter who met a tragic end while investigating claims of a toxic workplace. The episode, titled “The Assassination of Jeff German,” is set to air on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 10:00 PM on the CBS Television Network and will also be available for streaming on Paramount+.
Jeff German had gained a reputation as a local legend for his reporting on notorious mobsters, corrupt politicians, and murderers in Las Vegas. However, in September 2022, German found himself making headlines when he was ambushed and fatally stabbed outside his home by an unidentified assailant.
Following German’s shocking murder, the staff members at the Las Vegas Review-Journal were thrust into action to uncover the truth behind their colleague’s untimely demise. They meticulously compiled a list of potential suspects who may have posed a threat to German. Among those names was Robert Telles, the public administrator for Clark County. German had written four articles exposing Telles’ alleged misconduct and hostile behavior within his office.
German first learned about these troubling accusations from Rita Reid, Aleisha Goodwin, Jessica Coleman, and Noraine Pagdanganan—employees of Clark County who claimed to have been victims of harassment and bullying by Telles. The women further alleged that Telles was engaged in an inappropriate relationship with one of his subordinates and granted her unwarranted power and privileges beyond her job title. Frustrated by their failed attempts to seek justice through official channels within the county system, Reid, Goodwin Coleman,, and Pagdanganan took matters into their own hands.
Their determination led them to conduct surveillance on Telles and his alleged lover at what they suspected was their secret meeting spot—a parking garage. Armed with photographs and video evidence, the women shared their findings with German, who incorporated them into his exposé.
The repercussions of their actions soon became apparent. Van Sant interviews the women and asks if they felt a sense of accomplishment or concern about what might happen next. Jessica Coleman reflects on the aftermath: “The terror didn’t stop. The terror almost just got worse. It just changed face.”
Five days after German’s murder, Robert Telles was arrested and charged with his killing—a charge he vehemently denies. Peter Van Sant secures an exclusive interview with Telles at the Clark County Detention Center to shed light on this mysterious case.
Tune in to CBS on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 10:00 PM for this gripping episode of 48 Hours, which uncovers the intricate details surrounding Jeff German’s assassination and explores whether his investigative reporting made him a target.
