Beyond Paradise: BBC Commissions a Third Season and Christmas Special
The BBC has announced the renewal of its popular drama series “Beyond Paradise” for a third season and a Christmas special. This decision follows the success of the show’s second season, which concluded on April 26, 2024, leaving fans eager for more.
“Beyond Paradise” has quickly become a favourite addition to the BBC’s lineup following its debut in 2023. The series follows the lives and investigations of DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and his partner Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton), who live in the Devonshire town of Shipton Abbott. The show is a spin-off of the long-running BBC series “Death in Paradise.”
The recently concluded second season delivered engaging storylines, including a near-wedding between Humphrey and Martha, the conclusion of their fostering journey, and intriguing cases for the Shipton Abbott police team.
Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, expressed her enthusiasm: “Beyond Paradise has become such a huge hit with millions of viewers across the UK. It’s a show that is absolutely on a roll, and we’re pleased to bring more clever mysteries from the Shipton Abbott team.”

“Beyond Paradise” is a British crime drama series created by Robert Thorogood and Tony Jordan. It premiered in 2023 as a spin-off of the popular “Death in Paradise” franchise. The show follows DI Humphrey Goodman, who, after appearing in the final two seasons of “Death in Paradise,” relocates to Devonshire and joins the local police force. He works alongside his partner, Martha Lloyd, and a team of officers to solve crimes in their tight-knit community.
The series has received positive reviews for its mysteries and the dynamic performances of its cast, which includes Dylan Llewellyn, Zahra Ahmadi, Felicity Montagu, and Barbara Flynn. The first season, consisting of six episodes, aired in 2023, while the second season concluded in April 2024.
The show’s success has solidified its place in the “Death in Paradise” franchise, with the BBC also continuing to expand this world even further with The “Death in Paradise” franchise is expanding its horizons with an Australian spin-off titled “Return to Paradise.” The six-part series began filming in April 2024, with shooting locations across Sydney and the Illawarra coastal region.
“Return to Paradise” introduces the franchise’s first female lead detective, DI Mackenzie Clarke, portrayed by Anna Samson (“Dead Lucky,” “Wake in Fright,” “Home and Away”).
