The episode, airing on BBC Two on Friday 19 April, focuses on the disappearance of Kim Avis, who was reported missing by his teenage son after a swim at Monastery Beach in Carmel, California, also known as “Mortuary Beach” due to its reputation for drownings. Avis, an Inverness busker and street trader, was facing rape and sexual assault charges in Scotland when he went missing.
