Matildas: The World at Our Feet
26 April – Disney+ Original Series – Premiere
An intimate and uplifting look at the life and times of the Matildas, Australia’s national women’s football squad. The Matildas (Sam Kerr, Ellie Carpenter, Mary Fowler, and others) discuss the difficulties they’ve faced and the lengths they’ve gone to in order to reach the top of the most famous sport in the world.
Through it all, they are driven by a desire to leave a legacy and encourage the next generation to continue in their footsteps. Six episodes chronicle the team’s preparations, both on and off the pitch, for its greatest test yet: hosting the 2023 World Cup.
Peter Pan & Wendy
28 April – Disney+ Original Movie – Premiere
In “Peter Pan & Wendy,” directed by David Lowery, we encounter Wendy Darling, a young girl who is reluctant to leave behind her childhood home, and Peter Pan, a young boy who is unwilling to grow up. She goes with Peter to Neverland with her siblings and a little fairy named Tinker Bell. There, she has a life-altering meeting with the villainous Captain Hook of the pirate ship, Blackbeard.
Rennervations: Season 1
12 April – Disney+ Original Series – Premiere
Jeremy Renner’s lifelong mission has been to give back to the world’s communities, and the initial four-part series “RENNERVATIONS” embodies this mission by reimagining one-of-a-kind purpose-built vehicles to address the needs of those communities. There is logic behind every structure. Renner, unseen by the public, is a seasoned builder with a penchant for acquiring and re-imagining massive vehicles with the aid of his contacts in the global fabricator culture.
Renner, along with his best friend and business partner Rory Millikin, and an all-star build crew, travels the world transforming decommissioned vehicles into new uses, such as a mobile music studio in the form of a tour bus, a mobile water treatment facility in the form of a delivery truck, a mobile recreation centre in the form of a shuttle bus, and a mobile dance studio in the form of a city bus.
Actor and producer Anthony Mackie (Marvel Studios’ “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”), actress and entrepreneur Vanessa Hudgens (“Tick, Tick… Boom! “), actor and producer Anil Kapoor (“Mission: Impossible,” “Slumdog Millionaire”), and musician and songwriter Sebastián Yatra (“Encanto”) all join Renner on his journey to deliver the completed vehicles to each organisation.
The Crossover: Season 1
5 April – Disney+ Original Series – Premiere
Based on Kwame Alexander’s best-selling book, The Crossover chronicles the ups and downs of middle school basketball superstars Jordan “J.B.” and Josh “Filthy” Bell as they try to come into their own as people and as athletes.
Filthy is a dedicated sportsman who has set his sights on replacing LeBron James. J.B., his sibling and closest friend, has never deviated from the plan. However, problems arise between the siblings when popular new student Alexis moves to town and J.B.’s enthusiasm for basketball wanes.
Dr. Crystal Bell, their mother, is the school principal, and Chuck Bell, their father and a former NBA star, coaches the basketball team, so the Bell children have a lot on their plates between school, friends, romance, and basketball. They have always had the boys’ best interests at heart and have followed Chuck’s “basketball rules for life” since they were small. When Chuck’s health begins to deteriorate, however, the family’s stability begins to erode, and everyone must learn to sacrifice for and rely on one another.
Filthy and J.B. learn that basketball isn’t everything in life from their witty and dependable friends Maya and Vondie, as well as from their parents and instructors.however, ties to kin will always act as a binding force.
Tiny Beautiful Things: Season 1
7 April – STAR Original Series – Premiere
Tiny Beautiful Things, based on a collection by Cheryl Strayed, stars Kathryn Hahn as a struggling author who, despite her personal disintegration, becomes a respected advice columnist.
Clare’s marriage to Danny is on life support, her daughter Rae is pushing her away at the age of sixteen, and her once promising writing career has all but vanished by the time we encounter her. So when a long-lost pen pal begs her to take over as Dear Sugar, she declines because she feels unqualified to give advice to anyone. Clare’s life, after she reluctantly adopts the name Sugar, unfolds in a tangled tapestry of recollections that spans from her infancy to the present day and unearths the beauty, struggle, and humour in her unhealed wounds. Clare uses Sugar as a salve for her readers and for herself, to demonstrate that we are not hopeless and that our tales have the power to rescue us. And maybe get us back to where we started.
