Paramount+ Renews “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” for Season Four and Confirms “Star Trek: Lower Decks” to End with Season Five
Paramount+ has announced the renewal of the fan-favorite series “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” for a fourth season, while also confirming that the animated comedy “Star Trek: Lower Decks” will conclude with its fifth and final season.
“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” Continues Its Voyage
Currently in production, the third season of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” is set to premiere in 2025. The series, a spin-off of “Star Trek: Discovery,” explores the adventures of Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and the crew of the USS Enterprise before the events of “Star Trek: The Original Series.”
Executive producers and showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers, along with executive producer Alex Kurtzman, expressed their gratitude, stating, “On behalf of the cast and crew of ‘Strange New Worlds,’ we are thrilled and grateful to continue our voyages together. We can’t wait for you to join us and the crew of the Enterprise on another season of exploration and adventure.”
The series has garnered a dedicated fan base since its premiere in 2022, with its second season featuring a musical episode and a crossover with “Star Trek: Lower Decks.” The show’s popularity was further highlighted by its inclusion in Nielsen’s chart of the top 10 most-watched streaming original series.
“Star Trek: Lower Decks” Sets Sail for Its Final Season
The animated comedy “Star Trek: Lower Decks” will come to a close with its fifth season, which is currently in production and set to debut in the fall. The series, created by Mike McMahan, has charted new territory for the “Star Trek” franchise, focusing on the junior officers of the USS Cerritos.
In a message to fans, Kurtzman and McMahan expressed their gratitude and left the door open for future stories, stating, “We remain hopeful that even beyond Season 5, Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, Rutherford, and the whole Cerritos crew will live on with new adventures… While five seasons of any series these days seems like a miracle, it’s no exaggeration to say that every second we’ve spent making this show has been a dream come true.”
The series has received acclaim for its unique blend of humor and heartwarming stories, showcasing the lives of the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least important ships. The final season will continue to deliver laughs and emotional moments as the crew embarks on their final adventures aboard the USS Cerritos.
The Ever-Expanding “Star Trek” Universe
The “Star Trek” television universe, overseen by Kurtzman, continues to expand with new additions. The recently concluded “Star Trek: Discovery” aired its fifth and final season, and the original film “Star Trek: Section 31, starring Michelle Yeoh, has wrapped up production. Additionally, a new series, “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy,” is slated to begin production later this year.
With the renewal of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” and the conclusion of “Star Trek: Lower Decks,” the “Star Trek” franchise continues to captivate audiences, offering a blend of action, adventure, and humor that has become a hallmark of the iconic sci-fi franchise.
