Sight Unseen, April 10, 2024, The CW, “Sunny”

In the second episode of Sight Unseen, titled “Sunny,” viewers will be taken on a compelling journey as the hit-and-run victim from one of Tess Avery’s former cases awakens from a coma. Tess, a former homicide detective who loses her vision, is encouraged by her seeing-eye guide, Sunny Patel, to revisit the unsolved case and track down new leads.

The episode, airing on The CW on April 10, 2024, continues the intriguing narrative of the series, which revolves around Tess Avery (played by Dolly Lewis), a top homicide detective whose life takes an unexpected turn when she is diagnosed as clinically blind after an incident in the field nearly results in her partner’s death. Haunted by the unsolved cases she left behind, Tess is reluctant to accept her diagnosis and turns to an assistance app, where she connects with Sunny (Agam Darshi), a professional seeing-eye guide living 3,000 miles away.

In “Sunny,” Tess finds herself confronted by her past when a victim from one of her unsolved cases wakes up from a coma. Encouraged by Sunny, who is also an agoraphobe dealing with her own traumatic past, Tess embarks on a quest to find justice and closure. With Sunny’s guidance through a micro-camera and earpiece, Tess navigates her investigations, balancing her recent diagnosis while relying on Sunny’s eyes.

The series, co-produced by CTV in Canada and The CW in the United States, offers a unique twist on the traditional crime-solving genre by incorporating the experiences of the visually impaired community and addressing preconceptions about ability and trust. It is inspired by the real-life experiences of co-creator Karen Troubetzkoy’s recurring sight loss.
