On Saturday, May 4, 2024, The Weather Channel presents a new episode of Storm of Suspicion, titled “The Murdaugh Murders.” The episode explores the tragic deaths of Margaret “Maggie” Murdaugh and her son, Paul Murdaugh, and the subsequent investigation that uncovered a web of secrets and crimes within the powerful Murdaugh family of South Carolina.
The Murdaugh family, with a long history in the South Carolina legal system, found themselves at the center of a media storm following the deaths of Maggie and Paul on June 7, 2021. The double homicide, which took place at the family’s hunting lodge in Islandton, South Carolina, shocked the community and sparked a series of twists and turns in the investigation.
Maggie, 52, and Paul, 22, were found shot to death near the dog kennels on the family’s estate, with Alex Murdaugh, Maggie’s husband and Paul’s father, claiming he discovered their bodies after returning from a visit to his mother. Alex, a prominent lawyer in South Carolina, immediately denied any involvement in the killings. However, the deaths brought to light a string of other mysterious deaths and investigations connected to the Murdaugh family.
One such death was that of 19-year-old Mallory Beach, who died in a boating accident in February 2019. Paul Murdaugh was operating the boat while intoxicated, and the accident led to Mallory’s death. Paul faced criminal charges and was awaiting trial at the time of his death. Additionally, the 2018 death of the Murdaughs’ longtime housekeeper, Gloria Satterfield, raised suspicions, with investigators opening a criminal inquiry into the ruling of her death as a “trip and fall accident.”
