“The Rising” and “Barons” Premiere on The CW This May
The CW has announced that on Monday, May 29, two new drama series will premiere in the United States. Premiering at 8:00-9:00PM ET/PT is the UK supernatural crime thriller THE RISING, followed by the Australian surf drama BARONS at 9:00-10:00PM ET/PT.
What is The Rising About
Neve Kelly (Clara Rugaard) in THE RISING finds out she has died. She is terrified and bewildered by her new (non)existence, but she becomes enraged upon learning of her murder. She uses her newfound supernatural abilities to probe her own death, going where the police can’t find any leads. As a result, she is forced to reevaluate her entire life and the relationships she once held dear because of the secrets she has uncovered. THE RISING is a film with a unique tone and visual style that explores the themes of love, justice, and the price of seeking the truth in a society that would rather keep it hidden.
From Sky Studios, THE RISING is adapted from the Belgian crime thriller “Beau Séjour” and is written by Pete McTighe (“A Discovery of Witches,” “The Pact“) and Charlotte Wolf (“The Last Kingdom“). Serena Thompson (“Landscapers“) serves as executive producer for Sky Studios alongside Julian Stevens (“The Fall,” “Informer“) and Pete McTighe. Ed Lilly (“Industry“) is lead director. THE RISING is distributed by NBCUniversal Global Distribution on behalf of Sky Studios.
What is Barons about
Created by Emmy®-nominated writer Liz Doran (“Doctor Doctor,” “Please Like Me“), Michael Lawrence (“Bra Boys“) and John Molloy (“The Gloaming“), and directed by Shawn Seet (“Reckoning“) in collaboration with iconic surf director Taylor Steele (“Momentum Generation“), the events of BARONS take place during a time of racial upheaval, political unrest, and violent conflict.
A new surfing counterculture meets the realities of business in this eight-part series that captures a moment of upheaval and opportunity. Two best friends, each with a passion for surfing and Australia’s beaches, found competing surf companies. They have no idea how much their success will shred them and their lives apart.
When their businesses become successful, the young revolutionaries and their friends are thrust into a murky underworld of office rivalry, homophobia, and racial tension. Selling their vision to the world often results in enmity between competitors.
BARONS is a Micanical Media, 2 Jons, and Fremantle Australia production. Fremantle is handling global distribution.
