Who Poisoned Angela Craig?, 48 Hours, March 23, CBS
In Saturday nights episode of the popular investigative series 48 HOURS, viewers will be taken into the intriguing case of Angela Craig, a mother of six from Colorado who mysteriously fell ill and ultimately passed away. Titled “Who Poisoned Angela Craig?“, this episode will examine the investigation surrounding her death and the allegations against her husband, James Craig.
On March 6, 2023, Angela reported feeling sick and was taken to the hospital by her husband. Despite doctors’ efforts to determine the cause of her illness, they were unable to provide answers. Tragically, two weeks later and after being placed on life support, Angela succumbed to her illness. An autopsy revealed that she had been poisoned, leading police to suspect foul play.
The evidence gathered by investigators pointed towards James Craig as a potential suspect in his wife’s poisoning. Police alleged that a package containing potassium cyanide had been delivered to his office and that he had ordered it himself. Furthermore, they claimed he had researched various poisons online before purchasing potassium cyanide and arsenic.
Charged with first-degree murder but maintaining his innocence by pleading not guilty, James faced legal proceedings set for trial during the summer months. The arrest warrant revealed that he had searched for information on how much arsenic would be lethal to a human being—a detail highlighted by podcaster Steffan Tubbs who covered the case extensively.
According to Tubbs’ reporting on 48 HOURS: “Who Poisoned Angela Craig?”, it is alleged that James administered poison through his wife’s protein shakes. Skye Lazaro, an attorney knowledgeable about cases involving poison incidents, suggests that James’s defense might argue that law enforcement rushed their investigation in order to apprehend him swiftly.
At a preliminary hearing in 2023, James’s attorney brought attention to his client’s history of depression and past counseling sessions. Lazaro speculates that James’s defense may also claim that his internet searches about poison were not intended for use against Angela, but rather a reflection of his own struggles.
Regarding the allegedly poisoned protein shake, Lazaro points out that thus far, the state has not presented concrete evidence proving that the drink was indeed tainted. It remains to be seen how this aspect of the case will unfold and whether it will play a significant role in determining James’s guilt or innocence.
