Eclipse Across America, April 8, ABC, Disney+, Hulu & Nat Geo
ABC News and National Geographic are teaming up to bring viewers an unprecedented live event called “Eclipse Across America.” This two-hour special, set to premiere on April 8 at 2:00 p.m. EDT, will be broadcasted across multiple platforms including ABC, ABC News Live, National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo WILD, Disney+, Hulu, and various social media platforms.
The live event will feature a total solar eclipse which will be visible to at least 32 million people across America. This eclipse is said to be the last of its kind in the U.S. until 2044, making it a rare and significant moment.
The special will be anchored by David Muir from “World News Tonight” and Linsey Davis from “ABC News Live Prime.” They will be reporting live from Burlington, Vermont. Joining them on-site will be a talented lineup of individuals including Mariana van Zeller from Nat Geo’s “Trafficked,” photographer Cristina Mittermeier from Nat Geo Explorers, astrophotographer Babak Tafreshi, along with astrophysicists Jedidah Isler and Ved Chirayath.
To capture the full experience of this celestial phenomenon, “Eclipse Across America” will broadcast from 10 cities across North America that will witness the total solar eclipse in its entirety. These cities include Mazatlán in Mexico; Del Rio and Dallas in Texas; Russellville in Arkansas; Carbondale in Illinois; Indianapolis in Indiana; Cleveland in Ohio; Niagara Falls in New York; Burlington in Vermont; and Houlton in Maine.
In addition to the live simulcast on various Disney linear networks such as ABC and Nat Geo, viewers can also tune into the program via direct-to-consumer platforms like Disney+ and Hulu through the ABC News Live channel. The livestream can also be accessed on social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube channel TikTok, and Nat Geo’s Facebook page. Social-first content will be produced by ABC News and Nat Geo and audience contributions using the hashtag #EclipseAcrossAmerica may even be featured on-air.
The collaboration between ABC News and National Geographic aims to create a comprehensive viewing experience for audiences, ensuring that no one misses out on this rare natural phenomenon. The partnership brings together the expertise of Nat Geo in factual storytelling with the trusted anchors of ABC News, making it an unparalleled event.
Leading up to the eclipse, National Geographic and Spotify will refresh the Official National Geographic Playlist to feature eclipse-themed music. Nat Geo experts will also provide tips on where to watch, how to safely photograph the eclipse, as well as discuss its impact on animal behavior.
In addition to “Eclipse Across America,” ABC News will air special segments related to the eclipse across their programming lineup. This includes a live preview on “GMA3” from Dallas with DeMarco Morgan and Dr. Jennifer Ashton, broadcasts from Burlington on “World News Tonight” with David Muir and “ABC News Live Prime” with Linsey Davis, and coverage on shows like “Good Morning America,” “Nightline,” and various digital platforms.
